To some people, having a personalized email address may seem insignificant to their overall branding strategy. However, we beg to differ. If you have an email address that doesn’t run on your domain, chances are that your target audience might find you unreliable to do business with.
It’s perfectly acceptable to use @gmail.com or @hotmail.com for your personal inboxes. However, brands and freelancers need to have personalized email accounts if they want to be taken seriously. This is especially true for online entrepreneurs who are doing business primarily on social media (through their Facebook Pages or Blog). A generic email address won’t simply cut it if your goal is to boost your credibility as a brand and establish a long-term relationship with customers.
The good news is that it is so easy and affordable to get your own custom email domain these days. In fact, you don’t even have to own a website to do that. In today’s article, we’ll explain the benefits of having your own custom domain and how to setup your email address in just minutes!
Benefits of a Custom Domain Email Address
People don’t do business with just everyone they see online. A custom email address conveys a professional image for a business. When your email address uses the same domain name as your business, it brings trust and confidence from your customers knowing that they’re dealing with a legitimate company.
A custom domain email address makes it easier for your audience to recognize your brand and remember it when needed. Customers who are familiar with your domain name are more likely to remember your custom email address than a generic one.
Email accounts like @gmail.com and @yahoo.com are convenient to use because it’s free but along with the convenience is sacrificing flexibility when you want to switch email providers in the future. A custom email address will remain the same no matter who you’re hosted with.
Additionally, you can create different email addresses specific to your business needs. Create one for billing, customer support, or human resources; anything is possible when you create customized email addresses for each group.
Don’t have a website? That’s not a problem! What is important is to secure your domain name to claim ownership of your digital address. It doesn’t matter where your customers hang out, your brand domain will still grow along with your business.
For those who want to leverage their brands through social media or any digital platform (besides a website), your best option is to do a redirection. Simply put, it is the process of redirecting or forwarding your visitors to your domain to another web page of your choice.
You can redirect your domain name to point to your social media or e-commerce page. In this way, you can maintain an online address no matter what social media platforms you use.
For Vodien customers who only have a domain name with us, you may contact our hosting specialists to enable the redirection for free. If you have an active web hosting account you can do it yourself by going to your cPanel account, search for redirection option and change the settings as required. We have included a screenshot of the redirection option from cPanel for your reference.
How to Setup your Email Address
Choose an Email Hosting Provider
You need to register your domain before you can create your custom email account. Your registered domain is the one after the @ symbol of an email address.
