Having tons of traffic to your site does not necessarily translate to more income. Unless you have a loyal audience that roots for your brand, it’s unlikely that you will earn more revenue since passive traffic is difficult to convert.
I have created a short list below on the steps you can take to increase your online audience.
Make your brand message clear and consistent
Make your customers loyal to your brand by defining your brand message that uniquely identifies your company from the competitors’. It should illustrate what your brand is about and how it can add value for your customers. Make sure that it is prominently presented each time a new product or service is launched or when a marketing campaign is created.

Be a good listener
In the busy world of marketing, it becomes increasingly difficult to stand out from all the noise. Most companies focus their time on delivering the message, but have you ever paused to listen to what your customers have to say? Everyone seeks attention. Your customers, social media followers, email subscribers and prospects are no different. Show that you are genuinely interested in your audience by giving them your whole attention—get to know as much as you can about their goals, personalities and needs so you will have insight on how to serve them better.
Offer something valuable
You don’t want to be that brand that constantly floods their customers’ inbox with promotional newsletters every day. Although some may find this acceptable, it may turn off other customers. Ensure that you are providing something valuable to them. All content should be worth their time.
Focus on building trust and credibility
Let’s assume here that you know what you’re talking about and you have information worth sharing with your audience. It’s your responsibility to maintain that trust by following these key principles:
- Produce high quality content. I know it’s been said before, but I’ll say it again—Content is king. Creating a loyal fan base boils down to producing valuable content suited to its target audience. Your content should start with a catchy headline that compels readers to click followed by well-researched and engaging copy. Quality content helps build up your brand as an authority in your niche.
- Invest on great website design. Visitors will more often than not judge you based on how your website looks. A website that looks unprofessional and poorly designed could give the wrong signal that you’re not serious about your business and will mostly likely prompt them to look elsewhere. Make sure that your website looks professional, clean and easy for them get the information they’re looking for by incorporating user-friendly navigation and calls-to-action.
- Keep your word. Deliver the content you have promised to your audience. The moment you fail to deliver, your readers will be disappointed and won’t come back. Right from the start, think of what you are offering to your audience, what you promised to deliver and how you can consistently deliver that on time.
Resolve issues quickly.
If one of your customers emailed you about an issue with your product or service, address it right away to maintain their trust and avoid escalating it to unfavorable publicity. However, if the issue has gone public, respond in a courteous manner and reassure them that it will be resolved as soon as possible.
